One Year Down

Well it's the final week of school and I only have three finals this week, I have Macroeconomics Tuesday, Public Speaking Wednesday, and Management Principals Friday so it's going to be a long tough week; however, it will be worth it since the school year will be done. It has been an awesome first year and I am excited for the next three years. On the other hand I have a bunch of friends whom are seniors and will be graduating so I'll miss them next year and hope they visit often. I leave at some point Friday but I plan on coming back for a day next week to visit the seniors and say goodbye to them during their senior week. They stay on campus for all of next week and then have graduation on the weekend.

I've started to pack my things which is looking more and more unlikely that I will be able to fit it on one car. It should all work out though, hopefully my father come and visits before Friday so I can toss some things in his car so that it's not overwhelming come Friday. So my soccer team we made it to the championship having to play the best team by far, and oh boy was it intense. It was a really good game and went back and forth but we ended up losing 3-2 as they scored the game winner with two minutes left. It was to bad as there was a one dicey call that would have given us another goal so it was a real tough way to lose, however, it was a really fun game to play in. Other than that yesterday, I was able to hangout on the lake with some friends, it was a lot of fun.

The Village

So our housing draft worked out well as my roommate (Josh) and I received the room in which we had wanted in Village. The Village is like a Motel style housing as the are rooms side by side, there are two rows of the houses which make a "L" with parking spaces on the outside and a grass area on the inside. Our room is on the side known as Laundry side, which is facing the grass area as we preferred. We also have a some friends as our neighbors so that worked out really well. It's looking like we're going to have a good time next year.

Other than that, just been keeping busy with school. I just have a week an a half of classes left and then just one week of finals and it'll will be summertime! The school year has gone back pretty fast; therefor, I'm sure the summer will go by even quicker, so I am going to make sure to enjoy everyday of it. As for indoor soccer I believe our record stands at: 4-2. We lost a gave because of lack of numbers and we were able to win a game vs the top seed, but they were playing a man down. It will be interesting playing them again as I am sure we will meet in the playoffs.

The Housing Lottery

At the end of last week we had our housing lottery for next year. I received the 87th pick for Freshmen; however, my pick doesn't matter as my roommate for next year got the 8th pick, so I just go in with him during the draft to choose our room for next year. We are planning to just live in Village next year instead of Bartlett and Townhouses. My thought process is just that I just might as well get the full Thomas College experience while here and hit up each of the housing options for one year. This means I will probably live in Bartlett the following year and than Townhouses my senior year.

Indoor soccer is going pretty well as we are 3-1 we played a couple games yesterday winning the first by double digits and than lost the second game in penalty kicks. We should have won but they caught few breaks, but oh well we'll get them in the playoffs. We have a really good team and should definitely be in the championship. We are missing one of our key players right now though Pierre who is an exchange student this semester from France, he is injured right now so how scoring has decreased as he was our leading scorer. We are looking to bounce back tonight as we have a game at 6. Other than that just trying to wrap up the school year; I have a 10 page term paper to do tonight so that's gonna be a blast.

The Final Stretch

I am back from our spring break ready to finish up the year, so the summer begins. We have about a month left of school; I like be able to get out of school earlier than in high school and having a longer summer vacation. This summer will be exciting as I got a job at Camp Kawanhee for Boys in Weld Maine, so that will be really cool. I will be a camp counselor there and be running some activity there, I'm not sure yet that will be. I will definitely be good to be outside all the time this summer.

Things have started back up this week, as I have to get back into the flow as I have a couple tests over the next couple days. We have free movie tonight at Flagship tonight; however, I don't think I'm going because I want to get some studying in before the Men's NCAA College Basketball Championship game tonight. The game is between Butler and Duke, I am cheering for Butler since they are the underdog and I hate Duke. The GPH lobby will be pretty packed of people watching the game.

Soccer Begins

Yesterday our intramural soccer season began as we had our first game; it was a really close game as it came down to penalty kicks at the end. It was really exciting especially since we scored to tie the game with just 13 seconds left. I really liked how after overtime time we had penalty kicks because I hate ending in a tie. So because we were running low on time we had just 3 kickers from each team, and I was one of the penalty kickers for our team. The goalies did really well as our goalie Texas did not allow a goal during penalty kicks and I was able to be the only one on our team to score, so we pulled out with an exciting win! I hope all the games are like that.

Today I am really tired as I played the soccer game last night and earlier yesterday I played about two and a half hours of basketball. I just have wiffle ball tonight as it's our first game; however, there is barely any running in that so it pretty much be like a day of rest. Other than intramural news, I am just really busy with school work as we have vacation next week as some of our teachers have projects and tests this week so we wont need to worry about it over vacation. I am definitely ready for our spring vacation!

The Champs

So we won our first two games of the intramural basketball playoffs pretty easy, so our team was in the championship. Instead of our usually games in the field house we played the championship in the gym and pulled out with a double digit win. Our team the Sonia's have won four championships in a row now and haven't lost in those four years. If we keep most of our team together we are hoping to make in a 5-peat next year.

Up next for intramural: indoor soccer, wiffleball, and kickball. I am going to do wiffleball and indoor soccer. I am pretty excited; I haven't played soccer in a long time, and I am anxious for it to begin. Other than intramural, school is going well and next week is our last week before spring break. We have one week off than back to school for 3 weeks of classes and finish up with a week of finals and than summer begins! It's crazy that the year is almost over but I am definitely excited for summer.

Back in the Flow

So I've been back from break now for a bit, finally getting back into the groove of things. I had great time over vacation just relaxing and I didn't do to much but I liked it that way. So last week for basketball the boys and girls both had playoff games, the boys had a home playoff game and they were able pull out with a great win and the girls played a awesome game but unfortunately ended up losing in overtime. The girls finished the season really strong and will be looking to carry that towards next year. The boys team a few days later went and played in Farmington but lost in the semifinals, they had a great season and they'll make a big push for the conference title next year.

On Monday my intramural basketball team (the Sonya's) finished the season with a win, capping an undefeated regular season and we will be starting playoffs on Monday. We will have a lot of pressure to win the championship not only because were 8-0 but because the Sonya's have not lost a game in 4 years now!!! I think we are up to the task though so we should be all good. Than on Tuesday I was able to catch a high school allstar game that was played here at Thomas; I had a friend playing in the game and it was great to see her play and catch up with her for a little bit after. Than yesterday my brother Chris stopped by Thomas, so it was great to see him as well.

I am really looking forward to this weekend just to relax, also to catch up on my pool game as I've gotten a little rusty as I've been busy with school work. So I am gonna relax tonight and tomorrow and than hit the books again on Sunday.

February Break!

So we have one more week of class until our February break; I am really excited. Our break only lasts a week but that's alright since we get another one week break at the end of March. Most colleges just get one extended vacation after Christmas. It's nice we do not because it makes time this semester go by quick! Before we know it it will be May and our Summer break will have begun!

On Monday it was free movie night, so Thomas students were able to go to the movies at Flagship Cinemas in town. This is the first time I've went this year to free movie night; I really enjoyed it. I went and saw The Book of Eli it was a really great movie and I definitely recommend it. I still want to go to The Edge of Darkness which is out in theaters; It looks like a excellent movie, so my plan is to go see it during vacation.

Yesterday I attended the boys basketball game. It was a big match since we were playing our cross town rival Colby College. It was a good game as Thomas went up to begin with, leading by double digits going into half. However, Colby was able to slow the game down in the second half and come back. At the end the teams were swapping leads, and the game ended with a missed three pointer by Thomas in the last few seconds which would have put them ahead by one. We were all disappointed by the outcome but we'll get 'em next year.

Public Speaking

Public speaking is a class I am currently taking this semester; it is a very interesting class, especially with Professor Dog Wallace. We have currently been working really hard to practice monologues and skits. Yesterday we had our performance in the auditorium; I wasn't to nervous until I got on stage and saw that there was a decent amount of people; however, it went really well, and I was glad it was over with.

I did the skit with my roommate Zack, it is about how my character's wife leaves me because I am obsessed with the Beatles. Zack and I both had our lines down and we did a superb job on our acting and movements. Our skit was pretty funny, especially when I tell Walter-aka Zack-to get out of my house because he twisted the words when quoting a Beatles song. It was also really great to watch everyones performance and see that they all greatly improved. I am eager to see what we are going to do next.

It was Deep Freeze Week at Thomas, so there was many events. On Wednesday I attended the Mr. TC competition, it was a close battle but Colby Averill ended up winning. He did a great job during his talent portion by doing the "Evolution of Dance" it was really good, and he deserved to win. Tonight is Winter Carnival so all sorts of stuff is going on: FREE pizza! free t-shirts for first 200 students, airbrush tattoos, carnival games, live band, inflatable obstacle course and surf machine, and chance to win free Wii system and Carrie Underwood tickets and more! It's gonna be magnificent night!

Student Appreciation Day

On Wednesday the fiesta of what is student appreciation day occur ed, so there was a lot of awe-inspiring activities. There was FREE popcorn, discounts at the bookstore, trivia games, FREE breakfast and lunch for commuters that do not have a meal plan, a game show, and casino night.

I wasn't planning on going to casino night however, Jen and Shannon-admission counselors-whom I work with talked me into going just to say hi to them, so I decided I'd make an appearance. When I got there it seemed pretty cool like I was actually in Vegas. They had the works: craps, poker, and even blackjack. They had all sorts of prizes there too, such as subway gift card, patriots pack, bookstore gift card, Simpson's scene it, Nascar jacket, and more! They gave people 3,000 in chips and a raffle ticket, so we can put it into the raffle for the prize we wanted. Compiling chips allows you to gain more raffle tickets.

So the night began, 3,000 in chips in my cup, planning on just saying hello to Jen and Shannon then back to the life of GPH. I decided to play blackjack because those two young lady's were the dealers for the tables; I never had played blackjack before so this was my first time, I do know the jist of the game though. I went right up placed a bet of 500 down and won, it was riveting. I continued to play blackjack for the rest of the night, and ended up with 40,000!!! I received 13 more tickets to place and then the raffle began. I had won the most out of everyone! Second place was 9,000 behind me, so because I was in first I received a nice poker set. For the raffle I was able to win a pool stick and case and a $15 dollar gift card to Wendy's. It was a pretty sweet night, a pleasant surprise.

A Shorter Week

This week-because of Martin Luther King Day-was only four days. I had a great three day weekend just relaxing and having in are improved lobby. So in our GPH lobby we have a new flat screen T.V. and the top of our pool table was redone. I've only played pool a handful of times but I've been playing a lot this semester and I am becoming a lot better.

We had our first regular season basketball game on Monday for intramurals. We won by 20 points or more and then on Thursday we also had a game and won by more than 40 points. We are playing really well and I don't believe there is a team that can stop us. Last week I attended Hypnotist Show with Frank Santon in our auditorium. Coming into the show I didn't believe people could be hypnotized but after leaving it I did. It was really funny, I have not laughed so hard in a long time. I was really glad I went and will definitely go to it next year as well.

2nd Semester Starts Up

So I had a great Christmas and I received pretty much everything I wanted. The break was alright, and it was really good to see some friends; however, I was ready to come back and start school again. It's good to be back in school and to see everybody again. Getting settled in and now ready to have another great semester.

I am getting started on my new classes: Public Speaking, Macroeconomics, Management Principles, and Marketing Principles. Hopefully before I know it, February break will be here. I think I learned a lot my first semester and will be able to manage my time better. This will help with my stress by getting work done before the due date, instead of procrastinating which I've done some in the past. I really like the way-as of now-that I've set up my schedule. I attend classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (50 min. classes) from 9 a.m. to 11 and than one class at 1 p.m. Then Tuesday and Thursdays I just have class ( 75 min. classes) at 10:50 a.m. so am out by 12:05 p.m. I enjoy having 50 minute classes more since they're shorter and really like being able to sleep in til around 10:30 on those Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On Monday evening we had our 1st Annual Fanfest. There was a great crowd, and the first 200 students received a TC Terrible Towel. It started off by having a faculty vs student athletes game. It was an interesting game, surprisingly the faculty did have some skill and were able to pull out with the win. Then athletes' from each sports team mentioned about how their season either went, is going, or will go this year. After there was a game between two of the older intramural basketball teams. I am on one of the teams actually-the Sonia's-and our team came up with a solid win. We have a great team, and should win the championship; the Sonia's have won the last three intramural championships, so I've heard. We are hoping to make it a 4 straight this year. During halftimes of these games and between the games, there was competitions such as foul shooting and three pointers. It was a great success and it will hopefully be the 1st of many future Fanfest events at Thomas College.
